Africa: Senior Finance & Administration Officer - FAWE
The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is seeking to recruit a high calibre, results-oriented and dedicated professional to join its dynamic team at its Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Finance & Administration Officer will be in charge of the financial management, human resource, and administration functions of FAWE’s Regional Secretariat. S/he is expected to develop and maintain functional and efficient systems, processes, and procedures in the three areas of responsibility.
The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is a pan-African non-governmental organisation headquartered in Nairobi, with a network of 35 National Chapters across Africa. FAWE is a pioneer and leading African NGO promoting girls’ and women education in Africa. FAWE is seeking to recruit a high calibre, results-oriented and dedicated professional to join its dynamic team at its Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Finance & Administration Officer will be in charge of the financial management, human resource, and administration functions of FAWE’s Regional Secretariat. S/he is expected to develop and maintain functional and efficient systems, processes, and procedures in the three areas of responsibility. In addition to contributing to FAWE’s fundraising efforts, s/he will track and manage grant requirements. S/he will directly oversee three staff members, and will be responsible for preparing internal and external financial reports targeting different stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Manage FAWE’s finances in a rational, efficient and accountable manner
* Oversee the development, application and updating of appropriate HR & administrative policies and processes
* Ensure accurate financial tracking and record-keeping, enhance internal controls, and compliance with fiscal and legal requirements
* Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and yearly reports in a timely manner
* Ensure compliance with grant agreement requirements and liaise with FAWE donor partners on finance-related matters
* Lead FAWE’s budget preparations and coordinate audit activities
* Promote financial accountability and rational spending across the organization
* Supervise section staff and encourage team work and staff development
* Oversee management of FAWE House grounds and assets
Core Competencies
* Proven skills and experience in financial management, including the design of internal controls and risk mitigation approaches for donor-funded projects
* Solid knowledge of, and substantive experience in using SunSystems, Serenic or other ERPs
* Conversant with the financial procedures and requirements of development cooperation agencies and NGOs
* Good knowledge of HR and administrative practices in non-profit organisations
* Proven experience in managing change initiatives in these areas
* Strong writing and oral communication skills in both English and French
* Ability to multitask and to deliver under pressure and within tight deadlines
* Ability to work independently and in teams, to supervise, delegate and motivate staff
Qualifications and Experience
* Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration (MBA) or Public Administration (MPA) and certified training in internationally recognised accounting standards.
* Minimum of 7 - 10 years of experience in financial management, HR and administration in an non profit organisation or development agency

The initial contract will be for a period of three years subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
