Phaphule Pretty Botopela
Phaphule Pretty Botopela, a proud feminist and a MA student majoring in Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of the Western Cape and a Political Science alumna of the University of Limpopo. Her broader academic interests include Feminist theory, Social justice and human rights, Security studies and African history and politics.
The piece is centred around masculinity, media, violence and gender representation within South African context – exploring how media representation and culture influences and reconstructs our understanding of power and identity and can prompt violence and inequality.
