The Global Greengrants Fund supports grassroots groups working for environmental justice and sustainability around the world. The Greengrants model for grantmaking is founded on a set of advisory boards made up of environmental and social justice leaders. All grants are made on the recommendation of these advisory board volunteers. We are hiring a part time Coordinator to facilitate the work of two of these boards, one in East Africa and another in Southern Africa.

The Greengrants model for grantmaking is founded on a set of advisory boards made up of environmental and social justice leaders. All grants are made on the recommendation of these advisory board volunteers. We are hiring a part time Coordinator to facilitate the work of two of these boards, one in East Africa and another in Southern Africa.

Job Description

1. Manage the grantmaking process for the East Africa Advisory Board and Southern Africa Advisory Board to ensure timely decisions, good quality grants, consistency with agreed strategies and GGF guidelines.

2. Facilitate the development and continual improvement of grantmaking strategy and procedures

3. Manage board expansion and turnover

4. Organize and facilitate annual meetings of advisors

5. Coordinate with other boards as necessary to manage overlap and achieve synergy

6. Analyze the broad effects of board grantmaking in writing at least once per year, including analysis of the strategies, work and accomplishments of each board. Analyses follow the guidance from GGF Boulder, and are submitted within one month of the annual regional advisory board meeting.

7. Participate in GGF planning and strategy development by participating in the Advisors Retreat, contributing to annual program plans and budgets as requested, and commenting on other ideas and suggestions from staff

8. Supervise the grant administrator, if the board has one

Relationships

Report to the Director of Programs or Assistant Director as appropriate.

Liaise with Boulder administrative and fundraising staff

Qualifications

*Familiar with major environmental issues and networks in East Africa and Southern Africa
*Experienced with civil society organizations
*Demonstrated commitment to social justice and environmental sustainability
*Easy to communicate with by email and telephone
*Available for up to one quarter time work
*Willing to work for a competitive NGO consulting rate
*Fundraising and/or grantmaking experience
*Experience/Knowledge with governments and donor institutions in the regions
*Networks: Both within the regions and outside the continent
*Resident in one of the two regions
