NGO EXPO 2003 : 25 to 27 September 2003
In 2002, Zimbabwe made history when the first ever NGO EXPO was staged by NANGO during October. This historic event enabled NGO and other key stakeholders to celebrate the achievement of the sector over the years. The outcome of the EXPO was far beyond the expectations of the organizers. When space was being plotted and demarcated and contracts were being signed with service providers, nothing could have prepared NANGO for the explosion of activity and enthusiasm that was to take place when the show actually got on the road.
It is as if the space became filled overnight with a diverse range of people,
information and products. The space seemed to be bursting at its seams with slogans, banners, and savvy people who were enthusiastic and ready to share details of their work and passion. In fact the EXPO took on a life of its own with many things occurring in a spontaneous manner. For instance, the fact that several stands decided to enliven their presence and entertain the visitors with music and dance by performers imbedded in the exhibition space was totally unexpected. The one-day Dialogue forum was very well attended and participants were able to air their views and gain insight from capable and experienced presenters.

All Non-Government Organizations are invited to take up stands in order to highlight, share and celebrate what the NGO sector has significantly contributed to the development of Zimbabwe. The idea is to facilitate Dialogue between the Sector and its significant stakeholders, namely the Government, Donors and the General Public through open exposure of its products and services. We would like to urge all NGOs to contact NANGO as soon as possible in order to register their intention to participate. 19 Selous Avenue/3rd Street, 1st Floor Mass Media House, Box CY 250, Causeway, Harare.

For instance, the fact that several stands decided to enliven their presence and entertain the visitors with music and dance by performers imbedded in the exhibition space was totally unexpected. The itinerant nature of some of the music acts provided a wonderful atmosphere to the EXPO and in typical Zimbabwean fashion managed to elicit feelings of warmth and tenderness from both the the visitors and the exhibitors. Everywhere space was serenaded with acapello voices and children playing marimbas and people turned out in their numbers to glean an insight into the diversity and opportunities on offer.
