The political economy of football reproduces the exploitative structures through which capital and race intermingle in the extraction of surplus labour, wealth accumulation and appropriation from Africa. Reflecting on the most recent world cup in relation to the contribution of African labor to the football industry, Shaibu explores Africa’s position in global sports.
