The deep roots of colonialism continue to shape the fortunes of the African people. African elites have done their part to reinforce that legacy. Deep inequality, insecurity and urban segregation is the latest form of this strategy. 

Is the authority of the UN and regional bodies divine, such that it cannot be challenged by the Somali people? The only ‘crime’ the Somali democratic movement has committed is to dare dream of freedom in the land of its birth.
