Human rights abuses perpetrated by government and military task forces have reached a level that the international community can no longer ignore, NDCSC suggests. At present, ‘human needs are continually being frustrated on a large scale by illegitimate federal and state regimes in the Niger Delta’, the group says. NDCSC blames the current cycle of violence on the structural violence of the state in response to a peaceful agitation by the Ogoni social movement. Peace lies in putting the people of the region at the heart of a process of sustainable development.

Our people has never been consulted about its political status and therefore has not been able to exert its right to self-determination,’ said Felix Alain Flémin, the GCP’s secretary general.

The second day of the cleaning campaign on our land in Macassar was even more successful than the first. The police ceased more or less from their intimidatory tactics and there were even more community members present to clean the land
