Statement by the Kenya Left Alliance on the US Acts of Aggression against Venezuela
This aggression must be understood within the broader political economy of imperialism.
The Kenya Left Alliance condemns in the strongest terms the criminal aggression by the United States of America against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. These actions reflect a dangerous intensification of imperialist interventionism, marked by coercion, destabilization and open contempt for the sovereignty of oppressed nations that refuse to submit to the dictates of global capital.
Of particular concern is the violation of Venezuela’s territorial integrity and abduction of its President, Nicolás Maduro Moros, by the United States of America. This act constitutes an outrageous breach of international law and a direct assault on Venezuela’s national sovereignty. It exposes the hypocrisy of imperial powers that invoke “democracy” and “human rights” while trampling on both whenever their consumerism cravings and unjust economic interests are at stake.
This aggression must be understood within the broader political economy of imperialism. The US acts as the armed guardian of monopoly capital, willing to deploy force, sanctions and political kidnapping to secure access to strategic resources. Venezuela’s vast oil reserves, and its resistance to imperial plunder lie at the heart of US aggression and crimes against Venezuela. What we are witnessing is not a defence of democracy, but a violent scramble for control over the natural wealth of Venezuela. Additionally, shrouded in cheap propaganda is the alleged “fight on narcotics” against Venezuela with no other nation attacked in the same manner globally even when opposite couldn’t be more obvious. This and the untimely Nobel Peace prize bequeathed to Maria Machado prove the premediated and succinct planning of this act of sovereignty terrorism and fascism.
The sustained campaign of sanctions and economic warfare against Venezuela amounts to collective punishment of its working class and poor. By engineering shortages, inflation and social suffering, imperialism seeks to break popular morale and create conditions for regime change favourable to multinational corporations and foreign capital. This is class war conducted across borders, with devastating human consequences.
As a left alliance grounded in the struggles of Kenyan workers, peasants, youth and urban poor, we recognise familiar patterns in this assault. The same imperial logic that destabilizes Venezuela has subjected Africa to plunder, debt bondage, structural adjustment, and political subordination. Our struggles against IMF induced austerity, resource theft and neocolonial domination are inseparably linked to the conditions and resistance of the Venezuelan people.
The Kenya Left Alliance affirms the absolute right of Venezuela to determine its own political path without external interference. No foreign power has the authority to decide who governs Venezuela or how its resources should be used. These questions belong solely to the Venezuelan people.
We therefore call on progressive forces in Kenya, across Africa and throughout the world to take a principled stand in solidarity with Venezuela. This means rejecting sanctions, opposing all forms of intervention, challenging imperialist disinformation and strengthening internationalist cooperation among working-class and popular movements.
The defence of Venezuela is part of the wider struggle against imperialism and capitalist exploitation worldwide. In standing with Venezuela, we stand for a world in which nations are free from foreign domination and people control their own resources and destinies.
Imperialism must be resisted!
Venezuela’s sovereignty must be defended!
Hands off Venezuela!
Patria O Muerte!
Venceremos!
