Country Director - The Gambia, Uganda, Ghana, Malawi and Great Lakes

development work with poor communities. Currently, our work in Africa
expands to well over 20 Countries reaching hundreds of groups and
communities of poor and marginalized people. ActionAid's innovative
projects, social mobilisation, and policy advocacy work address issues of
gender inequity and women's rights, food security & livelihood, natural
resources management, emergency relief, peace building, education, HIV/AIDS,
governance and other social, economic and cultural inequities and
injustices. ActionAid in its work with poor communities engages critically
with all development players, governments, international and national
development organizations, global institutions, donors and private companies
to ensure a more enabling pro-poor policy environment within which the poor
people can claim their rights.

We are looking for dynamic and competent candidates to fill up the following
Country Director positions in the following countries in Africa where we
work.
a) Actionaid Ghana, Location - Accra, Ghana
b) Actionaid Malawi, location - Lilongwe, Malawi,
c) Actionaid The Gambia, Location - Banjul, The Gambia
d) Actionaid The Great Lakes, Location - Kigali, Rwanda
e) Actionaid Uganda, Location- Kampala, Uganda

These are very senior leadership and management positions in the
organisation directly reporting to the Africa Regional Director and having
functional relationships with counterparts in Africa and other divisions and
regions of ActionAid. This is a three-year (renewable) contract position.

The successful candidate will be expected among others to provide overall
leadership, direction, management, and implementation of the Country program
that is informed by the local, national and international development
context and one in line with ActionAid's vision, mission, philosophy,
principles, and priorities. Build and strengthen existing programs and
projects particularly policy and advocacy programs aimed at improving
opportunities for the poor and marginalized to exercise their rights and
mitigate impact of disasters such as conflict, famine and draught. Mobilise
the necessary resources required to run programmes and provide overall
management of all ActionAid resources in the country. Build and strengthen
the capacity of staff and partners to deliver ActionAid goals and
objectives. Build pro poor alliances and networks. Maintain regular
communication and establish working relationships with Africa Regional
Director, Regional staff across locations, UK staff, Alliance partners,
Corporate Directors and other Country Directors

Qualifications required:
A good university Degree in Social or behavioural sciences or equivalent.
Postgraduate qualifications in developmental studies or relevant work
experience will be an added advantage. A minimum of 3 years development
experience leading and managing programmes in Africa at the local, national
and international level in a fast paced and culturally diverse organization
preferably in an NGO setting .
