The Coalition on Violence against Women - Kenya, COVAW (K), is a women’s human rights organization founded in 1995 that is committed to breaking the cycle of Violence against Women and girls in the Kenyan communities. COVAW (K) works towards building the capacities of individuals, communities and the entire nation to recognize Violence against Women as a gross human rights violation and take appropriate measures to stop it. This is in recognition that Violence against Women is a social problem and for it to be eliminated, all members of the society must join hands to fight it. COVAW (K) also works to provide direct service delivery and referral services to persons who seek help from the organization.

COVAW (K) is looking for persons to fill one (1) available position for a Legal Intern for a term of six (6) months beginning August, 2011.

The intern will be required to conduct client interviews, draft pleadings, undertake case management, undertake comprehensive research on varied legal issues to back legal briefs and/or advice to clients and the Organization, accompany Programme Officers to field work activities, draft reports and attend meetings on behalf of the Organization if need arises.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must have completed the Advocates Training Program from the Kenya School of Law, as well as all attendant requirements there-from.
2. Must demonstrate a clear interest and commitment to human rights.
3. Must possess sufficient knowledge of the law, drafting and research skills.
4. Must be disciplined, organized and be able to work under minimal supervision.
5. Must possess a good track record of varying research skills.
6. Must possess good interpersonal and human relations skills.
7. Must possess basic computer skills.
